Who would have though that chocolate and dark beer would go so well together? The wife picked up that pretty bottle when she learned of Stout Day because
she thought that a chocolate beer would be gross….and she apparently doesn’t like me much. she loves me! She didn’t know it was the second chocolate (and not the last!!!!!) stout we would have.
After the awesomeness that was Sanders Chocolate Stout, we were super excited for a DOUBLE chocolate stout. Is it twice as chocolately? Twice as stouty?
Poured out, it had the same colour as Sanders and you could smell a little chocolate from the glass. Going down is a different story. There was a hint that there may have been, at some point in the brewing process, some sort of chocolate there, but you can’t really taste it if you’re not looking for it. It was a little smokey and a lot dry, but I was looking for that sweet beer booty that never showed up.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent stout, and had we drank it before Sanders, it would have rated better. But when you raise the bar that high, its unfair to the rest of the competitors.
