When you look back on my Top 10 Beers of 2013, you’ll find a pumpkin saison and a plethora of IPAs. Some would say that I really like these types of beers. So, why not merge the two of them together and make a Pumpkin IPA!
I thought that this would be a sure 2014 Top 10 and I was super excited to try it. It poured out dark brown and it smelled like pumpkin beer. I couldn’t smell any hops, but pumpkin is strong and probably over powered it. It tasted like a slightly sour pumpkin beer. Still, an absence of hops.
Then I thought, let’s let it warm up, the hops should come through then. They didn’t. It was a good pumpkin beer, but it was marketed as a pumpkin IPA…there’s no PA to it! Oh wait a tick, let’s read the label again. India Pumpkin Ale is a malty ale that…..
So, they just stuck the Pumpkin in there in place of Pale and it tricked me. As a pumpkin beer, it’s great. As far as pumpkin IPAs go..well, I’m still looking for that.
