So Jackie brought over some beers for my birthday…and in that pile were two ciders. As we know from the past…they suck. Or at least I think they do. But on the day that I drank this, I was well into the rabbit hole of beer (5 strange ones) then I needed something different. I had just had a Steigel Radler a few before, so that sweet flavour was still in my mouth, so I can only assume that is why I grabbed the Thornbury…sugar madness.
I have heard that this stuff is better than Somersby, which is gross, so there is hope. On the can they tell us about their locally sourced ingredients and their 150 year heritage and marketing blah. It also says to enjoy it over ice, which I didn’t do because I read it after I drank it.
Poured out, it looks and smells like cider. Hooray! But when you taste it you expect sweet apple flavour, but that’s not what they deliver. It does taste like apple, but in a nice, light, watered down apple juice way, with a little sweetness on the … cider booty? It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, and I actually enjoyed drinking it, for the most part.
I’ll never do it again, but it was fun while it lasted.
