The wife picked this up because it said it was a limited edition beer. I looked it up and, sure thing, they only made a few batches of this stuff. It’s a celebration beer first brewed in 2011 to commemorate some Dutch thing, I don’t know. I just want what’s inside.
It opened with a pop and filled the kitchen with a beautiful smell of yeast. It poured our pale gold and started to develop a huge head the more we poured. When I got to the bottom of the bottle, I was leveling off the glasses and poured that last bit into Pats…which was full of the yeast sediment. Like, lots of it.
It smelled like yeast, hops and banana. It tasted smooth and slightly creamy, like a saison or a heavy wit beer. It had that distinct flavour of hops, but in the beer booty you could taste things like banana, cloves and possibly grapes. It was by far the best beer of the night, and I’m glad I got to share it with someone who wasn’t as sick of saisons as I was.
