When the wife brought home a beer that was called Hopfenweisee, I was giddy. What’s better than weisse beer with lots of hops? That is like my dream beer! And then she found another one, but in a 750 ml bottle. This beer, is a kind of collaboration between Schneider Weisse and Brooklyn Brewery. Apparently the two brewmasters are close friends and they worked on this beer together. That’s exciting, since I seem to like Brooklyn beer. I was so excited about drinking this beer.
So excited, that is, until I tried it. It poured out dark copper and full of bits, like I expected it to. It had a citrusy and hoppy smell to it, which was good. But when I tasted it, it tasted like a saison…and not a good one at that!
I’m so over saisons this year! Seems like every time the wife comes home with beer, there’s a saison in the bunch. I need to be in the right mood to drink a lemony, high ABV beer, and this night, I was not.
Booooo. Now my expectations for the second one have been lowered to “I hope it doesn’t suck”
