Rogue Day! When we were in the States last, we went to a liquor store that RateBeer and Beer Advocate both said was the best in Port Huron. We stopped in there on our way home from shopping and Olive Gardening and picked up a butt-ton of beer. On this special occasion, we decided to drink all 4 Rogue beers we picked up in a row.
Since the season for pumpkin beers was pretty much over, we decided to start our day off with that one. The bottle had a great story about Rogue’s Grow Your Own (GYO) philosophy and explained how the pumpkins were grown on their own farm, located 77 miles away from the brewery. It even included the latitude and longitude coordinates.
It poured out a cloudy orange and smelled like roasted pumpkins. There wasn’t that usual nutmeg or allspice smell you get from most of the others. It tasted just like the bottle said it would, like beer made with roasted pumpkin. There was no bitterness, no tartness, no crazy amounts of spice.
This is probably one of the best pure pumpkin beers I’ve ever had. A great way to start off Rogue day!
