On New Years Eve, we were at Pat and Sherry’s for dinner and drinks. I mostly went for the drinks, but who’s counting? We started off with some regulars and then hopped into a strong Porter that kicked Pat’s ass. We moved onto a doppelbock that will get reviewed once I have the second bottle that is in my fridge (after Trois Mousquetaires Porter, it’s not fair to slam Cameron’s for making a bad beer…..). We finished off the night of beer with Highlander Smoked Porter. Highlander makes some decent beers and smoked porters are yummy on their own, so I figured this would be a good way to finish the night; not too sweet, not too strong, completely different taste than the other two.
It poured out very dark brown and smelled a little smokey and sweet. It tasted like..nothing really. It was light tasting with some smoke, but it all went away after it went down. There was no residual flavours or anything. It didn’t suck, but it didn’t blow me away either.
Again, probably not very fair to comment on this after drinking some heavy beers, but I don’t have another one, and probably won’t get one…so there.
