For my “day before my birthday” lunch, a co-worker took me to Jack Astor’s. There, as you may know, they have at least 3 seasonal taps (Hop City, Sam Adams and Granville). On tap during this trip was Sam Adams Summer Ale, Hop City Lawn Chair and Granville Raspberry Ale. I went with a Lawn Chair with my Crispy Honey Asian Chicken stir fry (which I ate with chop sticks because I’m high class!). It was great, but we still had an hour. So I got another.
After that, we still had 45 minutes. So I got a smallish glass of the Granville. When it came, the waitress said “enjoy that” to which the co-worker said “you can check the blog later to see what he thinks”. This started a conversation about how she has served a lot of beer bloggers lately. I thought that was a little odd, so I inquired a little to see who these other bloggers were. Turns out, it was Mark. He was there with a bunch of his work friends a few weeks ago having drinks and Sydney was his server then. Small world.
She informed me that Mark did not like it. I knew that, it’s a fruit beer. Mark doesn’t do fruit beers.
I, on the other hand, really enjoyed it. It was pinkish red in the glass and it smelled very tart. The taste was all raspberry beer, kinda like KLB, but without the wheat. It was very refreshing on the patio of Jack’s.
Thanks Sydney, we’ll see you again real soon.
