Every two weeks, it seems, the boys at Forked River come out with a new beer. The last time I was there, I asked Steve and Dave what they had in store for us next and told me there was stout in the tank as we speak. Just in time for the winter season.
I popped in one crazy Saturday when one kid was at a party, the other was with the wife doing something and I had the youngest two, in the van, driving all over the city dropping things off and picking things up. I asked the 3 year old if she wanted to see where Daddy’s beer comes from and she was excited…until she walked in and said “It’s stinky in here, Daddy.” Yes dear, it is. While I was there, I met the Polkaroo of the brewers, Andrew. That was fun. We had a nice little conversation about my CBGB shirt. I don’t think I can trust him as a brewer though….no beard.
Anyway, before dinner was put on the table, Mark and I opened these guys. It poured out black and had a pretty big chocolate brown head. It had a sweet, smokey flavour to it which could rival Guinness and Cobblestone. It was malty up front and alcoholy in the booty, which made it taste like it was stronger than it really was. Lately, I’ve been having 9 and 10 % stouts, it was nice to have a “light” one.
I love having a brewery in town. Makes it easy to get different beer all the time.. now I just need to convince them to move closer to me.
