Each year, the LCBO seems to latch onto a theme and run with it. This year it was saisons and pumpkin beers. Last year, I had one. This year, I’ve had four and there are another 4 in the fridge. Don’t get me wrong, so far they are all good, but after a while, I’m sure they will all taste the same. I might run out of things to say soon.
We had some friends over for dinner and cooked up some shepherd’s pie and chicken pot pie and I was so excited for the pot pie, it had been a while. I was holding the baby and finishing up vacuuming when I decided it was time for beer. So we went downstairs and he helped me pick out Post Road Pumpkin Ale. Good choice, my boy.
I opened it up and poured it out, but unfortunately, I had a squirmy 2 month old in my arms and wasn’t able to pour it out very smoothly. It got kinda foamy when I was done, but I think because of that, it let off quite the aroma. The smell of nutmeg and pumpkin spice filled the spots in the kitchen that didn’t smell like dinner.
It was quite orange in the glass. It tasted thick and creamy, kinda like a Boddingtons. It had a malty booty and finished more like a lager than an ale. After about half, the spices were starting to over power the beer and it was a perfect complement for the pot pie.
Brooklyn Brewery is 3 for 3 so far. Keep it up!
