My brother and his wife love to travel, and since I’ve started keeping track of all the different beers I try, they have tried their best to bring at least one home for me from wherever they go. Their last trip was to the craft beer capital of the west coast, Portland.
While there, they went to a bunch of places and grabbed some good looking beers. When they sent me the picture of their booty, I kinda figured which one they picked up for me, an 87 IBU beer called Hop Czar! Neither of them are crazy on the hops like I am, so I was looking forward to it.
This was the first “good” beer we spliced in with “bad” beer day deux. I read the label and it seemed interesting, told Mark it was an 87 IBU, slightly higher than The Matador, which put hair on our chests! So what can we expect from this? It poured out dark copper like it should, full of floaties. The hop smell off it was amazing. I think I want to grow hops just so I can smell them in my backyard, is that wrong?
The first sip was pure heaven. It is, by far, one of the best IPAs I have ever had. I know I said that about West Coast IPA, but this one is better. It was the right amount of pungent hops and sweet malts that left you with very little after taste, except for a little pine. I can’t say enough about this beer.
I need to take a trip to Portland!
