I love vanilla porters, so I was really excited for this one. I sat down after putting my boys to bed, poured out what I expected to be a creamy relaxer after a tough day. I had Mill Street Vanilla Porter in mind as the measuring stick for this beer…FAIL. It was not creamy, it was a little tart, but overall, not what I wanted or expected. The 2.5/5 rating I gave this may have been generous.
The only other vanilla porter I’ve had was Mill Street’s, and that was an amazing beer. The bar has been set high! The wife was getting her hair did by Jackie and the kids were in bed. I decided to take the opportunity to sit down with a slow sippin beer and make some changes to the site.
The first thing you notice, compared to Mill Street, is the lack of a fun nitro charged can. It poured out thick and black with a pretty small head for a porter. It did, however, smell like vanilla, so there’s that. It was smooth and vanillay, but not as smooth as it was vanillay. It was still pretty good, but the vanilla porter bar has not moved.
