We were in St Jacobs for a friend’s performance in Footloose. He was stellar, even though I didn’t see him until the second scene. I nudged the wife and said “Look, it’s Eric”. To which she said “ya, he was in the first scene too”. I never saw him. I failed him as a friend.
Anywho, before the show, we were tooting around St Jacobs, killing time. We were going to go to the world-famous market (that burnt down earlier this year) but it was cold and raining. No thanks. So instead, we went to Block 3 to grab a few new beers and then walked down the street for some lunch (and some Block 3 beer).
They had 3 new ones available, but only two bottled. I tried their Dark Horse Dunkel there, and it was great, but I wasn’t about to grab a growler of it. I picked up the other two and we were on our way.
A few days later, I couldn’t wait any longer. I went to the fridge and grabbed Sawmill ESB. I poured it into the Block 3 glass that I got from the brewery. It was a brownish colour and smelled like a malty ESB. It tasted a little malty but there was the distinct flavour of hops in the booty.
A hoppy ESB? Now that’s exciting! It was smooth going down, a little heavy for the style, but those hops…..
