This was the first Beau’s I picked up after my apology post for Lug Tread. It was hyped a lot, both in the craft beer community and even on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Of course, I had to try it out.
Tom and the guys from Beau’s created this beer based on a skit he did way back in the day when he drank milk right from the udders. It was really the world’s first exposure to the insanity that is Tom Green. Well, that and Organized Rhyme….
This beer was consumed on a night where the wife and I took on a cookie making project for my work. They wanted 16 cookie tins for gifts. That means we had to fill each tin with 16 dozen gingerbread, sugar cookies and shortbread cookies. Whats 16 x 12 x 3? Yeah, 576 cookies and an entire night. The wife didn’t get to bed until 4 because she was decorating. But they turned out great and everyone loved them.
Back to the beer. I figured that I was going to be up for a while, so I could drink a big beer, and if it sucked, I had time to chase it with something proven. This one poured out black and developed a head at the same rate as a Pepsi. It had a very sweet smell to it, which you would expect from a milk stout. It tasted smokey (like a stout) and sweet (like sugar). I found it way too sweet. A little sweet with smoke is good (see Sander’s Chocolate Stout) but this was too much for me.
I felt like I was getting rot gut from drinking it. I managed to finish it but I definitely needed that chaser…thanks for always being there for me Stella
