When Mark opened this beer, it pretty much exploded all over my kitchen. We lost about 1/3 of it to the ceiling and the floor, but managed to corral the rest of it into glasses. We let it sit for a few minutes to settle down before we even thought about drinking it.
It was a great IPA colour, all cloudy and amber and smelled very bitter. When we got to tasting it, we ended up with pucker face. It was way more bitter than we thought it would be. The use of that strong and/or many hops made the beer seem flat to us. Of course, the giant carbonated explosion could have done that too. Either way, it was not our favourite beer of the night.
Almost immediately after checking in, the brewers replied to my tweet asking which version I was drinking. Apparently they changed their formula shortly before we purchased this bottle and they brought the hops down a bit and mellowed it out with a different malt. I guess we’ll have to try to find that next year and see if they succeeded.
