Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special guest drinker with us today… The Wife!
She bought this beer with the express intent of drinking it with me. I was so excited that she was going to start drinking beer again instead of wine, $3 cooler and all my whisky!
We poured it out one day last week when we were making dinner together. I tipped it around a few times, you know, to get the sediment all mixed up. Probably shouldn’t have tipped it that last time. When I uncorked it (has a fancy Grolsch style cap), it kinda spewed all over me and the sink. I quickly started pouring it out into the glasses and discovered that it was red…..BRIGHT RED. Soon after the ‘splosion, the whole kitchen started to smell like raspberries, it was wonderful.
There was no need to smell it in the glass, it was pungent enough from the counter. When we tried it, I found the head to be very sweet and raspberry-e. The wife thought that it was salty up front, but was kinda sweet afterwards. I could only really taste the salt after she said it, but it was in the background for me.
It was a big bottle and I took the majority of it, so when the sweet meets the ABV, you get a little happy. Lucky for me, I was close to done with the chopping when I realized that my judgement might be a little off.
Overall, I think I drank this during the wrong season. Outside on a hot day would be the best time to drink this guy. Great combination of fruit and wheat. I look forward to drinking it again next year.
