I was having a kind of off day. Nothing was working in my favour, my work out sucked, there was no food in the fridge and I was hungry. I ended up making an omelette with cheese and bacon. What goes great with breakfast-for-dinner? Stout? Porter? Or maybe this smoked beer the wife picked up around Oktoberfest time. Sure. It’s been in the fridge for a while.
I kid you not, the only English words on this bottle were “smoke” and “beer”. Reading those, I was immediately brought back to Sunturnbrew, that horrible smoked beer that neither Mark nor I could finish back on meatball day (that was a fun time). That taste is still fresh in my brain, so I was not overly excited to drink this.
As expected, it poured out super black. Unexpectedly, however, it smelled like campfire! Who doesn’t love that smell? If I were blindfolded, I would have a hard time telling the difference between this beer and a sweater you wore the last time you sat by a fire.
It tasted fantastic. It was like a smooth, smokey porter, like Stone Chiptole Smoked Porter (but without the heat), but it also tasted like campfire, too! It was incredible.
It was pretty damn good. I hopped onto LCBOSearch.com to see if there was any left, anywhere, but sadly, it was all gone.
Next year, my friend, next year!
