Now here’s a fun beer. The label looks like an alligator jumping from the water to chomp down on the name. The bottle is gator green, the writing is stylized and gold. Everything about this beer says IPA to me.
The words Helles dobbelbock, however, say something else. What? crap!
After the last Helles I had and didn’t like, I was less than excited to drink this, especially this late in the day. It poured out a crisp yellow and had a very, very small head. It smelled like a lager that had been aged with something that doesn’t belong in beer. The taste was really strong, tasted like a lager and there was a certain berry flavour in there that just wasn’t right.
While we were drinking it, David came over to pick up his kid and stayed for a bit. He had been drinking on someone else’s dime all day, and was going to a friend’s house to drink there too, so of course I offered him a sample, just to see what another drunk guy would think.
He said “it tastes like a stripper I knew in Florida.” He did not expand on that, and we thank him.
